Woman digging in backyard in Kamloops trailer park late last night struck a water line

August 19, 2020 - 3:00 PM

Firefighters were called out early this morning after a woman digging a hole with a shovel in a Kamloops trailer park punctured a water line.

It's not clear why she was digging or why she was digging at 12:30 a.m.

Kamloops Fire Rescue confirmed that crews were called out to a mobile home park on Ord Road late last night to shut off the water.

“I think based on the report it was just the unit involved. I don’t think it was the park, just the individual owner that had the water shut off,” Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Mike Haines says. “It didn’t impact anyone other than the person who hit the waterline.”

Haines says he has no indication as to why the woman was digging in the night. He also is not certain about the amount of damage that the waterline sustained or how long it may take to repair.

If you plan on digging, contact B.C. 1 Call to make sure there are no pipes, cables or conduits beneath the dig site. You can also check out this map made by the City of Kamloops which shows all utilities buried underground, although you should always call as well to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
