Woman dies suddenly in Kamloops; police seize firearm

A woman in Kamloops died suddenly, and police seized a semi automatic rifle at the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

Kamloops RCMP received a call to an address known to police in the 500 block of Carmel Court around 1 p.m. on July 16, according to a release from police.

There was a woman in medical distress at the home, and Emergency Health Services and Kamloops Fire Rescue were at the scene.

“Sadly, a female in medical distress did not survive attempts by emergency personnel to revive her,” Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

The woman’s death is unrelated to the rifle seized at the scene, and since the investigation is ongoing police are not releasing any more details.

“At this time, criminality is not believed to be involved in the sudden death investigation, which is being conducted concurrently with the BC Coroners Service,” Cpl. Evelyn said.

There were other people at the scene, but police did not reveal details about them.

Police have launched a separate investigation into the firearm.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-22650.
