Woman critically injured in Vernon shooting

VERNON – A shooting early this morning in Vernon has sent a woman to hospital in critical condition.

RCMP say just after 1 a.m. today, Jan. 6, officers were called to a shooting at an apartment in the 3700 block of 24 Avenue in Vernon.

A 49-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries, according to an RCMP media release. She was taken to hospital where she remains at this time.

“The investigation is in its early stages,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. “However, preliminary information suggests this was not a random attack.”

Brett says police don’t believe the public is at risk.

RCMP have not released the victim’s identity or any other information about the shooting.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious earlier this morning in the area of 3700 block of 24th Ave, or may have any information, are asked to call Vernon RCMP GIS at 250-545-7171. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com.
