FILE PHOTO

KELOWNA - A suspect has been arrested and charges laid in connection with an assault in downtown Kelowna earlier this month that sent a woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police found the woman at 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 4 outside a gas station near the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Richter Street. The actual assault occurred a couple hours earlier in the 500 block of Leon Avenue.

RCMP say Melody Decoteau, 40, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, robbery and breach of an undertaking.

The victim, who suffered significant injuries as a result of the attack, has since been released from hospital.

Decoteau is expected to appear in court next week on Tuesday, June 20, police say.
