VERNON - The RCMP has arrested a familiar face in connection with an unsettling robbery.
Earlier this month, an 83-year-old man was taking money out of the ATM at CIBC on 30th Avenue when a woman came up behind him and snatched the cash from the machine. The man tried to grab her but she escaped with the money.
RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says a 27-year-old woman already well known to police has been arrested for the theft. She fits the description provided by the victim as well as video footage captured at the bank. Police also compared the description with their catalogue of people who have had previous dealings with the RCMP.
Molendyk is extending a big thanks to the numerous good citizens who phoned in with tips.
The woman was released on a promise to appear in court and is prohibited from going near the CIBC bank.
