WolfPack WBB recruit Alley Corrado of Kelowna

Kamloops, BC---There has always been a great rivalry between the cities of Kelowna and Kamloops in all sports. So it is always special when a team from one city is able to sign prospects from the other. Such is the case with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team.
Head coach Scott Reeves and the WolfPack are pleased to announce the signing of two high school players from Kelowna: Alley Corrado and Madison Dickie. Corrado will be a roster player in 2017-18 while Dickie will be a red shirt. Both are students at Kelowna Secondary School. Corrado is guard while Dickie plays wing.
“I have always loved Kamloops growing up,” the 5’7 Corrado said. “I would always come here for swimming and basketball tournaments. The WolfPack just seems like a family. I like how the team is super close and how Thompson Rivers is sort of small. I love the feeling when I come here.”
Corrado is hoping to get into the Bachelor of Nursing program at Thompson Rivers immediately. If not, she will take Science courses aimed at entering nursing.
Corrado is a multi-sport athlete but decided to focus on basketball. “I have always liked basketball more. Just the fast pace of the game and love to shoot the ball.” She has played on the senior Owls program at Kelowna Secondary since grade 10. She played club basketball since grade seven on the UBCO Junior Heat.
Her coach the last two seasons was Bobby Mitchell. “Alley was a key part of the 2015 team that posted a record of 26-5 (the best in Jr Heat history. She is a hard working player who can defend really well. She was a leader on our team and voted captain of the 2016 club which finished 10-11 in the PEBL. She played multiple positions for us from the 1-3 spot. Her versatility really helped us.”
She is a shooting guard. “I shoot the ball pretty well and am an intense defender along with reading the court very well,” she said when asked about her strengths. “I think it will be a big step up to USport but I am trying to prepare myself as best as I can. I am going to do as much work as I can in advance to be ready.”
Mitchell believes that she will be successful at the Canada West/USport level: “her hard work and commitment to getting better will be a key for her future at TRU. She will need to continue to work on her offensive skill set to be a threat at the next level.”
WolfPack assistant coach Chuck Ferguson played a key role in recruiting Corrado. “Initially it was her work ethic and commitment to her game that attracted me to her, she has a workman approach to the game, a willingness to do the work to be a better player, and a quiet way of going about her work. Over time I have been able to see constant and steady improvement, coupled with a solid on court IQ. Alley is the kind of player who will fit seamlessly into the TRU system of play. I believe there is still room for Alley to develop as a player and a person and it is that journey that we are excited to be going on with her. “
Ferguson goes onto say: “We believe that Alley will be able to come in and very quickly begin to contribute to the growth of the program. She is a hard working student athlete, who will welcome the challenge of playing at the next level. She comes from an excellent high school program and already has the approach to the game that will be required at the U Sport level. While every student athlete faces a steep learning curve moving from the High School game to the U Sport game we expect that Alley will make that transition fairly seamlessly.
Corrado adds it was important for her to commit to a Canada West program early in her grade 12 year. “ I wanted to sign before my last high school year so some pressure would be relieved. I would know where I am going. I am really happy with my decision to come and play here.”
