Witnesses to dramatic Kelowna crash sought by Mounties

An unusual incident involving a woman calling for help from a red Chevrolet Cavalier that later crashed is the focus of an ongoing RCMP investigation.

Kelowna RCMP received a report April 29 just after 1:30 p.m., from a concerned citizen who reported a woman in the car in distress and calling for help.

As frontline officers began patrolling for the vehicle and located it near the intersection of Springfield Road and Leckie roads.

"The vehicle had left the travel portion of the roadway, through a fence narrowly missing a bus shelter and landed on its side," Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release.

"Both the passenger and a man believed to be the driver of the vehicle were located by police."

The woman passenger was also taken to hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, a 46-year-old man was arrested at the scene and transported by BC Emergency Health Services to hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He faces potential charges and has since been released from custody for a future court date. This matter is still under investigation.

“Officers spoke with several witnesses to this incident,” Noseworthy said. “However, we believe there were several others who had stopped to (offer) assistance at this scene, and left prior to police arrival. We are asking that they call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.”
