Witnesses sought after boater fires gunshots into Osoyoos Lake

Osoyoos RCMP are seeking witnesses to a shots fired incident from a boat on Osoyoos Lake yesterday evening, July 26, 2020.

Osoyoos RCMP are looking for further witnesses after a man fired several rounds of ammunition into Osoyoos Lake yesterday.

RCMP received a report of a man on a boat near White Sands Resort around 7:35 p.m. yesterday, July 26.

The man was said to be discharging several rounds from a gun into the water from a dark coloured boat with a white stripe and dark coloured top.

Police were able to locate the boat where they detained the man and seized a folding 9 mm rifle.

A 47-year-old Kelowna man was later released pending further investigation.

The man is facing potential charges under the Firearms Act.

The lake was busy last night, but police have only heard from one witness to the incident.

"We know others must have witnessed this," Osoyoos RCMP Commander, Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release issued this morning. “We are asking any other witnesses to this reckless incident."
