91 Years Young and Counting…

Marion Sallenbach, age 91, has been volunteering with the Winfield Auxiliary to the Kelowna General Hospital for over 57 years and has no plans to ‘retire’ any time soon.  She and the 12 other fun-loving and hard-working members keep busy year round with their own fundraising functions and catering services.

On March 28th five members made their way to KGH to tour the new Centennial Building and make their annual contribution.  This year the membership decided to designate the proceeds of their hard work, $4,500, to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC).

“After seeing all of the construction and witnessing the improvements of the new Centennial building, we were very excited to support the new IHSC”, says Connie Douma, President.

Most of the Auxiliary’s fundraising is through catering – once quoted “the best kept secret in town”.  The ladies provide nourishment for memorial teas, weddings, reunions, crib tournaments, and everything in between.  They also are paid to help with Wheels to Meals at the Seniors’ Centre a couple of months each year.

The Winfield Auxiliary keeps busy with many other activities from Christmas raffle hampers, to concession and bake stands.  Marion continues to help out with the baby clinic where Public Health Nurses weigh and immunize newborns.

Needless to say, this group is very passionate about giving back to their community.  If you are a Winfield local and looking for a way to get involved, or hosting a function that is looking for some incredible catering, contact Connie at 250-766-3026.
