A standoff with an armed suspect in Williams Lake ended without incident yesterday following several hours of negotiations.

The incident began Sunday, Feb. 16, just before midnight when police responded to a report of an individual involved in a dispute on Midnight Avenue in Williams Lake, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect was not present but was identified, and located in the 700 block of 11 Avenue.

As the RCMP officer approached the residence, the suspect was seen exiting with a firearm, pointing it toward a vehicle with someone inside.

The suspect fled back into the residence following engagement by police, who then removed three others from the building for safety while attempting to negotiate with the suspect. Around 2:15 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody. The residence was secured and a firearm has been recovered.

Dylan Marcel Lulua, 26, has been charged with pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. Lulua appeared before a justice of the peace and was released under strict conditions.

Williams Lake RCMP say they are focusing on the compliance and enforcement of the accused’s conditions. There were no injuries to the public in the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
