Evacuation order rescinded in B.C. wildfire but emergency ongoing

Original Publication Date May 03, 2025 - 12:06 PM

PRINCE GEORGE - An evacuation order and an evacuation alert for five properties due to a wildfire near Hixon, B.C., has been rescinded.

The Regional District of Fraser Fort-George issued the order and alerts for the Hixon Wildfire north of Naver Creek on Friday night due to a fire 53 kilometres south of Prince George.

It says although the evacuation order and alert has been lifted, an emergency is ongoing and additional notices may be issued.

The BC Wildfire Services website lists the fire as out of control and says it has burned 70 hectares so far.

The service said Saturday morning a crew was on site through the night to protect infrastructure and patrol for spot fires.

It says structure protection has been established in areas of potential concern.

It notes the fire is not currently threatening Highway 97, but shifting winds could cause conditions to change.
