Wildfire near Peachland being held

KELOWNA - Fire fighters are continuing their fight with a wildfire between Summerland and Peachland today.

The fire, believed to be human caused according to the B.C. Wildfire Service, was spotted yesterday, June 24, at the North End of Garnet Lake. Three fire fighters and three air tankers started work on it yesterday, and work continues today.

“The three fire fighters on the scene yesterday worked into the night,” Fire Information Officer Justine Hunse says. “Three are on the scene now.”

The flames are being held Hunse says, and it’s about 50 per cent contained. A structure one kilometre away is not in harms way.

“There’s been no growth in the fire since last night,” Hunse says.
