KENNEWICK, Wa - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday night in Kennewick, Wa sweeping the team's first round WHL playoff series in four straight games.
Gage Quinney scored the game-winning-goal with just 1:28 to play in the first overtime period as the Rockets completed a comeback from down 4-1 in the game, to end the series.
Kelowna outshot the Americans 71-30 in the game but had to battle back from a three goal deficit in the second period. Tri-City led 2-0 after the first and extended the lead to 4-1 in the second, before the Rockets started its comeback.
Madison Bowey and Rourke Chartier scored goals 36 seconds apart late in the second period before Bowey tied the game just 37 seconds into the third period with his second of the game.
Chartier also scored twice while Nick Merkley and Riley Stadel each had two assists in the win.
Rockets goalie Michael Herringer came in in relief of starter Jackson Whistle and didn't allow a goal facing 11 shots, including seven in the overtime period.
The Rockets now advance to the second round of the WHL playoffs against an undetermined opponent.
The series will begin April 10 and 11 in Kelowna and tickets will go on sale Thursday morning through Select Your Tickets.
