When it's your birthday, you deserve special treatment. It's your special day and because it only comes once a year, you need to make sure you take full advantage of those 24 hours.

Beyond the birthday wishes and that e-card from grandma, you have the opportunity to cash in on some free stuff and some sweet discounts to make your birthday the best day ever. 

Check out these places to get the birthday treatment on your big day.

FOOD

Kelly O'Bryan's 

Before 4 p.m. you get a free meal under $20, but after 4 p.m. you get a free meal up to $30. Unfortunately, you can't order multiple dishes totalling under $30, as there is a one-dish limit. But that won't stop you from getting Extreme Pachos with extra cheese and extra bacon with extra sauce, now will it? 

IHOP

Birthday VIPs get a free crepe on their birthday at IHOP. It comes with the flavour of your choice, whipped cream and a scoop of ice cream. 

Denny's

Get a free Grand Slam on your birthday, all you need is to show your I.D. The Grand Slam comes with two eggs, two bacon strips and two sausage links, and two pancakes. 

Red Robin

Sign up for Red Robin Royalty and get a free birthday burger! Plus, they've got bottomless fries all year round, so make sure you save room! 

DRINKS

Blenz Coffee (some locations)

Make sure you're hitting the Bernard Avenue or Glenmore locations for this one, as they give out free birthday drinks, no sign-up needed. Blenz locations are individually owned, so it's up to the owner whether they offer them or not. For example, the Orchard Park Mall location does not do birthday drinks. 

Starbucks

This is the mistake many make -- going to Starbucks for a free drink, not knowing you need to be a member for at least seven days in advance! No worries, those days are over. Click here to join Starbucks Rewards. Not only will you get a free birthday drink, but becoming a member gives you access to member-exclusive emailed promotions and free coffee and tea refills. Just because your birthday is only one day, doesn't mean you shouldn't get free stuff all the rest of the year.   

Orange Julius

Sign up for the Julius league here to get a BOGO smoothie coupon for your birthday. The person accompanying you is sure to pay, it's your special day after all, why wouldn't they? 

DESSERT

Montana's Steakhouse 

If you sign up for the Grill Lovers Club, you get a free dessert on your birthday, and a free appetizer just for joining. Plus, we've heard that birthday guests of honour get to wear the moose hat. Wearing big fuzzy antlers and eating ice cream is exactly how we should all spend our big day. 

Boston Pizza
