Looking for some family fun activities for Family Day?
Several fun, family-friendly activities are being held in Kamloops and the Okanagan over the Family Day weekend, and some are even free.
Here's a look at events you could check out.
KAMLOOPS
The City of Kamloops is hosting its tenth annual Family Day Festival on Monday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This free event will gather community organizations and businesses at the Tournament Capital Centre offering many family-friendly activities to choose from such as face painting, arts and crafts, sports and more. As part of the Family Day festivities, public skating at the Valleyview Arena will and public swimming at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre will only be $2. For those looking for a calmer environment or a more cultural activity, entrance to the Kamloops Art Gallery will be free on Feb. 16 and 17. Current exhibitions include an Indigenous art exhibition Sleeping in Skins: Life in Inuit Nunangat, a Patrick Lundeen exhibit and more. The Paramount Theatre will be hosting Free Family Flicks starting with Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse on Feb. 17, which is also part of the Kamloops Film Society's first Black Film Festival.
The theatre will also have a free showing of The Smurfs on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. to celebrate The Smurfs' 65th anniversary on the big screen. For more information, visit the Society's website here.
KELOWNA
The MNP Place, once known as the Capital News Centre, will be hosting a Family Day Fun event featuring games and activities for the whole family. This includes a Park and Play bouncy castle, a sports scavenger hunt, some free ice skating and more. The event is free, but Jumpstart will be accepting donations during the event. For an inclusive family-friendly scavenger hunt, head over to Mission Creek Regional Park for the Family Day adventure quest. Organized by the Regional District of Central Okanagan, this scavenger hunt will test puzzle-solving skills and involve some physical activities. TrailRiders will be provided for families who require help to get around the park. For more information on the event visit the Regional District's website here.
In West Kelowna, the Westbank Museum will be hosting a water marbling workshop in collaboration with Colour Drop Design. There will be two workshops, respectively starting at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The $37 activity will allow participants to create four water-marble eight-inch by ten-inch canvases. VERNON
The Caravan Farm Theatre will host a sleigh ride social on Sunday, Feb 18. Every hour, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a sleigh pulled by horses will leave allowing for participants to enjoy a pleasant ride around the farm's 80 acres. Bonfires will be crackling a concession will be available as well as home-cooked meals at the "Cookshack." Enderby and the District Recreation Services will be hosting a Family Day Fun event on Monday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. From family skating, crafts and games to family curling, this event will have it all. PENTICTON
The Penticton Art Gallery will host a free Family Day Community Canvas event on Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local artist, Jenny Long, will guide participants through the creative process as they paint on a communal canvas which will be transformed into something special for the March 29, Parade for No Reason. Other activities will also be available such as rock painting and colouring pages. For further details, visit the gallery's website here.
The City of Penticton will be hosting its Family Day event on Monday from 12 to 3 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre. There will be free skating, a barbecue by donation, HARVEE will be present, a sensory space and much more. Helmets and skates will not be provided but the whole event will be free.
