KELOWNA - The Family Day long weekend is finally upon us. If you're looking for fun events and activities to fill your three days off, you've come to the right place.
If you want a personalized tote bag, make sure to check out Rustic Chalk Decor at 1974 Moose Ct. on Saturday, Feb. 16, for a two-hour DIY class. The course, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., teaches participants how to make their own custom tote bags. Tickets are $30 and can be found here.
Teach your feet some new moves at the Give from the Heart fundraiser dance on Saturday at 1696 Cary Rd. There will be beginner lessons and social dancing at this event which raises money for the Central Okanagan Hospice Association. Tickets are $25 and doors open at 7 p.m.
If you want to cut a rug somewhere else, head to the Parkinson Recreation Centre on Saturday for a Family Day dance party. The free event is open to people of all ages and it will feature a DJ and party games. The music starts at 6 p.m.
For all the hockey fans out there, the Kelowna Rockets will take on the Vancouver Giants in home game action at Prospera Place on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start time.
Winter nights might be cold, but they're also beautiful. For adventurous souls who want to trek through snow at night, there's a moonlight ski and snowshoe tour at Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club on Saturday. A tour will lead visitors through moonlit trails starting at 5:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring simple food for a potluck. For directions to the club, check here.
Sample the best and newest beer around at the B.I.G. Beer Festival at BNA Brewery Co. on Sunday, Feb. 17 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Arts will host the event, which features new and vintage beers for tasting. Tickets are $25, with all proceeds going to the Alternator.
The Kelowna Art Gallery will be open on Family Day, Monday, Feb. 18m, for a fun afternoon of activities and exhibitions. Kids will be able to explore printmaking and create personal tote bags. There will also be family-friendly exhibition tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is $5 per person.
Ready to throw axes for a good cause? Head down to Axe Monkeys Kelowna on Family Day for a charity event. One and two hour sessions of axe-throwing fun will available for anyone ages seven and up. Twenty-five per cent of all proceeds will go to Hands in Service, which assists community members with physical, financial, or social limitations. Bookings can be made at the Axe Monkey website here.
Cap off Family Day with a truly spectacular show at Stuart Park rink. The Kinshira Performance Troupe will put on a blazing fire show at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The dazzling performance is completely free.
