WFN hosts 11th Annual Okanagan Traditional Games

WEST KELOWNA - sensisyusten House of Learning hosts the 11th Annual Okanagan Traditional Games and Track Meet, Friday, May 29, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1920 Quail Lane.

Attending this year will be six schools with over 350 students between the ages of 5 to 14, competing in traditional Okanagan games and running events such as the 50, 100, 200 and 800-meter races. 

Other traditional games include hide-pull, spear throw, rock throw, archery and hoop jump that have been passed down for centuries in Okanagan culture.

The goal of the event is to bring our schools together to promote active participation, sportsmanship and friendship, while enhancing an awareness and appreciation for Okanagan culture.

Competing schools include SinPokChin School, Outma Squilx’w Cultural School, Ntamtqen snma? maya?tn, nkmaplqs i snmamayatn ikl sqilxwtet, n’kwala and Westbank First Nation’s sensisyusten House of Learning.
