Westside car accident leaves three horses dead

RCMP Spokesperson Gord Molendyk

VERNON - Three horses died in a collision with a truck on Westside Road over the weekend.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says a pick-up truck hit the horses around 12:10 a.m. on Dec. 13 on Westside Road near Pinecrest Road. The front end of the truck was badly damaged.

Two horses died right away, and the third was put down because it was suffering, Molendyk says.

A witness said the driver was uninjured and left the scene in another car. The registered owner of the vehicle is from Squamish, and police have been unable to reach him.

Molendyk says there are many free range cattle horses in the area. The owner of the horses was contacted and took the animals away.

Officers continue to investigate the accident.
