Mining company Westhaven Gold recently reported finding significant gold in its Shovelnose property exploration program in the active Spences Bridge Gold Belt.

Westhaven Gold announced their latest drill results on Wednesday, May 12, reporting a section of 15.97 metres of 9.15 grams of gold per tonne and 27.43 G/T of silver from one drill core and 79 metres of 2.73 G/T gold and 15.78 G/T of silver from another.

Gold Mountain Mining’s Elk Gold Project and Sego Resources Miner Mountain project are other gold plays in the region that recently reported success in their exploration programs.

The Shovelnose property consists of 17,623 ha located near the southern end of the Spences Bridge Gold Belt.

The property is accessed off the Coquihalla Highway, taking the Coldwater exit and a series of logging roads to the property.

"With this significant high-grade gold-silver drill intercept... our theory that more high-grade centres occur along this major NW-SE structure has proven correct,” Westhaven Gold President and CEO Gareth Thomas said in Wednesday’s release.

He said his team is gaining a better understanding of the Shovelnose property’s geology as this year’s drilling program focuses on further exploration targets on the large and underexplored property.

The Merritt-Spences Bridge area has recently become a focal point for mining exploration activity in the province, with the Association of Mineral Exploration B.C. president Kendra Johnston reporting strong exploration activity in the region earlier this year.
