A home in the West Kootenays was the target of arson early this morning in the form of molotov cocktails.
A man and his 10-year-old son woke up to smoke filling their home on 5 Avenue in Castlegar at around 1 a.m. today, Sept. 12, according to an RCMP media release. They quickly escaped the house unharmed to find out they had been the target of an arsonist.
A neighbour saw the fire taking hold and acted quickly to help the family put the fire out. While extinguishing the flames they noticed what appeared to be molotov cocktails.
As of now the RCMP don’t have any suspects and are unsure if it was one arsonist or multiple.
The witnesses were able to put the fire out before it had a chance to spread to the rest of the house so there were no injuries and minimal damage to the home.
Anyone with information on the arson is asked to contact Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.
