MERRITT - The Merritt Centennials Matt Foley scored in overtime to beat the West Kelowna Warrior 5-4 in Merritt Friday night.

The Centennials opened up the scoring at 5:42 on a goal from Michael Ederer after a great pass from Colin Grannary. Edered snapped it between the pads of Andy Desautels.

The Warriors would wait only 56 seconds to tie it up, as Jonathan Desbiens finished off a beautiful 3-way passing play with Liam Blackburn and Brayden Gelsinger, who picked up his third point in two games for West Kelowna.

Blackburn would put the Warriors up 2-1 at 14:01 on a nifty deflection from a Mac Ferner point shot, which beat Anthony Pupplo.

This time it would be Merritt tying it up 57 seconds later as Grannary worked hard to get to the front of the net and Ederer picked up his second goal on the rebound.

Early on in the second period, Greydon Robinson was able to send a low wrister on goal which Andrew Johnson tipped to Desbiens who potted his 2nd of the night to give the Warriors a lead.

Merritt still wouldn’t go away, getting a goal from Grannary as he snapped the puck past Desautels once again to tie it.

The third period would be more of the same as Gelsinger scored early in the frame to make it 4-3, but the Centennials responded with a goal at 2:46 on the power-play.

Both teams would go into a bit of a defensive shell after that for the remainder of the game, and it wasn’t until overtime where the big chances to score came.

Moments after the Warriors had a pair of opportunities to end it, Matt Foley picked up the winner on a two-on-one to beat West Kelowna by a 5-4 score in OT.

Warriors are back home on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Royal Lepage Place to take on the Prince George Spruce Kings. There will be a free skate after the game with Warriors players as well.
