The West Kelowna Warriors Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce forward Connor Sodergren (’96) has committed to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the 2017/18 season.

Sodergren, 20, is in his 2nd season with the Warriors and is part of the leadership group with the club as an assistant captain. The 20-year-old currently sits second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 23 points in 27 games so far this season to go along with 42 penalty minutes.

The Tewksbury, Massachusetts native was a key part in the Warriors RBC Cup National Championship one season ago in 2016, earning eight goals and 30 points in all 58 regular season games before playing in a total of 35 playoff games between the BCHL post-season, the Western Canada Cup in Estevan, Saskatchewan and the Royal Bank Cup in Lloydminster, Alberta. Sodergren compiled seven goals to go along with 10 assists for 17 points over the playoff run, including 42 penalty minutes.

“Connor is a complete 200 foot player that is hard to play against every night,” commented Warriors general manager and head coach Rylan Ferster, “His work ethic is second to none.”

The River Hawks play out of the Hockey East conference and are off to a strong start in their season, posting an 8-4-2 record thus far in 14 games. With the campus just minutes away from his hometown of Tewksbury, it will be like a homecoming for Sodergren after spending two years in West Kelowna.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play at a school so close to home,” stated the newest River Hawk commitment Connor Sodergren, “I’m thankful for everyone who has helped me get there.”

The Warriors would like to congratulate Connor on the achievement and with the commitment, he now joins fellow forwards Quin Foreman (Dartmouth), Jon Russell (Harvard) and defensemen Nicholas Rutigliano (Bentley) committed to play Division I college hockey.

Sodergren and the Warriors are back in action on Friday night when they head to Kal Tire Place for the first time this season to play the Vernon Vipers. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM with the pre-game show starting at 6:50 PM on the Warriors Internet Network and hockeytv.com.

The Warriors are back at Royal LePage Place Saturday night to host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
