WEST KELOWNA - An RCMP officer searching for a missing person near downtown West Kelowna, spotted the elderly man at the base of a small embankment in apparent need of medical assistance.

At about 9 p.m., nearly three hours after 80 year-old Al Campbell walked away from a property in the 3600 block of Old Okanagan Highway, the police officer spotted him behind the Westbank Museum located along Pamela Road.

“Due to the frigid outdoor temperatures, combined with the missing man’s health conditions, our officers were very concerned for his health and overall well being,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release. An earlier release declared that Campbell suffers from a medical condition which may cause him to appear confused or disoriented.

Campbell suffered what appeared to be relatively minor injuries and displayed symptoms of exposure to the elements. He has since been transported to hospital by B.C. Ambulance Service for full medical assessment and treatment. Police believe Campbell was not properly dressed for the elements, as he went missing wearing a navy blue jacket with a fur hood, and brown corduroy pants.
