West Kelowna neighbourhood on edge after strange encounter; RCMP want information

Glenrosa residents are expressing concern online this morning over a report of an unusual interaction between a local teen and a stranger.

Chad Garrecht posted on a  Glenrosa community group that on Dec. 23, just after 11 a.m., on McIver Road, a man repeatedly tried to pick up his 16-year-old.

“(The man) described as maybe 50 years old, caucasian, round chubby face, grey beard and small round glasses,” said Garrecht in a post that's been widely circulated. He noted it was a similar description to the alert that was circulated earlier in the month.

“He pulled up in a four-door white ‘90s model sedan with rust on it and asked him to get in the car numerous times, asking if he wanted a ride to Westbank and was persistent.”

RCMP were informed and in a press release issued today, Dec. 24, the West Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section confirmed it's investigating the matter and are canvassing for video surveillance to determine if there are links to other similar reports that have been made previously.

There have been similarities and differences in each incident reported.

"It should be known that the matter was reported hours after the incident occurred because the teenage boy did not fear for his safety, nor did the male offering the ride exhibit any aggressive or rude behaviour,"  Const. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP said in a press release.

Police are asking the male driver to contact West Kelowna RCMP in order to clarify his actions and hopefully shed some light on this reported incident.

Anyone with information about this incident, the person involved or the vehicle is asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.crimestoppers.net.
