West Kelowna man's death being investigated by police oversight agency

The province's RCMP oversight agency is looking into the death of a West Kelowna man.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating the death of Glen Tarbet, 49, whose body was found July 20 after he had been missing for several days.

"Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on July 16 at approximately 9 a.m., officers attended a man’s residence with regards to an ongoing investigation," the oversight agency said in a press release. "The man left his home the following day and police were contacted as family members were concerned for his welfare. A police search was undertaken over several days."

The independent investigators will try to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in Tarbet's death.

"The B.C. Coroners Service is also conducting an independent investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death," reads the statement.

In a press release earlier this month, the RCMP said Tarbet's body was found July 20. He had been reported missing on July 18.

The Independent Investigations Office is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
