WEST KELOWNA – A local lottery player is $1 million richer after checking the numbers on his Lotto Max ticket from last January.

Werner Weiss of West Kelowna thought he won $10,000 and couldn't believe his eyes, but when he checked closer, he actually won $1 million, according to a release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

“I had to count the zeros a few times to believe my eyes,” Weiss says in the release. “Even now it has to sink in a bit.”

Weiss doesn't have plans for his winnings yet, but wants to put some toward retirement and helping people when he can.

He bought the ticket at the Sheffield’s Express in the Orchard Park Shopping Centre in Kelowna.

The Okanagan is home to many lottery winners, so Weiss is in good company.
