West Kelowna home heavily damaged in fire

FILE. A West Kelowna firefighter begins filling out paperwork.

A West Kelowna home sustained around $100,000 damage in a Sunday morning blaze, likely caused by an electrical issue.

Just before 11 a.m. this morning, West Kelowna Fire Rescue received multiple reports of a house on fire in the 2600 block of Copper Ridge Drive.

"First arriving units found heavy smoke and flame billowing from the front of the house," Brent Watson West Kelowna Assistant Chief said in a press release.

"Crews quickly deployed hand lines and were able to contain the fire to the garage, which suffered heavy damage. There were no injuries, and the three residents of the home and their dog are in the care of Emergency Support Services. The home is insured, and damage is estimated to be in excess of $100,000."

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded with five Engines and a Command unit, totalling 21 personnel.

"The cause of the fire is undetermined, but likely electrical in nature," Watson said.
