West Kelowna Fire Rescue crews battled a grass fire below Mission Hill Winery this afternoon.

At approximately 3 p.m., Aug. 15, firefighters responded to a 100-by-40 metre fire off of Elk Road, below the winery.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire as they had access to municipal fire hydrants, according to a WKFR news release.

No structures were immediately threatened and the cause of the grass fire was accidental, according to the release.

A total of 13 firefighters, in three engines and one command unit, responded to the blaze.

With the fire danger rating approaching extreme, WKFR reminds residents to be cautious in the wildland urban interface.
