West Kelowna Fire Rescue knocks down apartment fire

WEST KELOWNA — West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire last night.

The call came in at about 7:45 p.m. yesterday, March 22, and crews rushed to the scene in the 2000 block of Hebert Road, a media release says.

First arriving crews saw heavy smoke and flames through the roof of the 15-unit townhouse complex and called for backup. The additional units stepped in to cover Westbank and Glenrosa.

With all West Kelowna Fire Rescue units committed Kelowna Fire Department were called in to cover the Rose Valley, Lakeview Heights and Casa Loma neighborhoods.

Three of the 15 units were heavily damaged and several others suffered smoke and water damage. All of the units were evacuated and the occupants are currently in the care of Regional Emergency Support Services, the release says.

Damage is estimated at over $200,000.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

"WKFR would like to thank the Kelowna Fire Department, Peachland Fire Department, the RCMP, BC Ambulance, ESS, BC Hydro, Fortis BC and Winmar Restoration for their assistance during this major fire," the release says.
