A shotgun, rifle, throwing knife and air pistol were some items seized from an unlocked van on the North Shore in Kamloops.
RCMP discovered the weapons during a curfew check in the 300-block of Tranquille Road around 2:50 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 18, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP observed a suspicious brown van parked in a back lot with its panel exposed near the ignition and its plates removed.
The van’s doors were unlocked and as officers entered to check the VIN number, they noticed a bag on the driver’s seat that appeared to have a firearm inside, RCMP said.
A search of the bag revealed a rifle, double barrel shotgun, air pistol, ammunition and throwing knife.
“The items were seized for public safety,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “The van was not reported stolen and its registered owner was identified.”
The investigation is ongoing.
