SICAMOUS - Both employees and the people who booked vacations with Waterway Houseboats in Sicamous are still reeling from the company going under.

“The news was shocking, all departments were called up to guest services, in which we thought would be an ordinary safety meeting turned out to be horrible news for all of us,” said Jacob Taggart, a Waterway housekeeping employee, until last week.

Roughly 50 people were employed at Waterway Houseboats when the announcement came down June 10, the day before the receivership hearing, and the majority affected were seasonal employees.

“Waterways was an amazing community, we all showed up with a smile on our faces and did everything we could to make our customers and employees leave with great memories and a smile on their faces," he said.  "I was only there for a short time but my heart goes out to our amazing managers who put their everything into making Waterways what it was.”

Taggart said it’s a shame the community has to handle this “major loss, and an even bigger shame to those who had invested their summer vacations with us.”

Many potential vacationers are also still scrambling in the wake of the closure, wondering what they will do going forward.

Daniel Stewart received a notice clarifying that he would likely never see the return of the $7,000 he paid for the trip.

“A copy of the order and other information related to the administration of the debtor's estate is posted at www.alvarezandmarsal.com/waterway,” reads the one communication on the matter he’s received.

“The operations of the debtors ceased effective June 11, and no further sailings are planned by the receiver. If you have future sailings booked with the debtors it is cancelled.”

It also said that Waterway “did not hold funds in trust related to future sailings and, accordingly, no refunds are available.”

The receiver, Alvarez and Marsal, is not collecting claims from creditors and in the event there is a call for claims further information will be sent to creditors and posted on the receiver’s website.
