Water quality advisory in effect in North Okanagan

NORTH OKANAGAN - The district has issued a water quality advisory for the North Okanagan.

The Regional District of North Okanagan Silver Star Water Utility in conjunction with Interior Health, sent out the advisory yesterday, Dec. 7 in a media release.

Customers served by the Silver Star Water Utility are being informed that due to a water treatment malfunction at the Mid T Water Treatment Plant, some water that entered the reservoir was untreated by Ultra Violet disinfection. The chlorine system was working properly through this time period, but as a precaution, operations staff will be flushing the water that was not treated by UV from the water distribution system.

The advisory will be lifted when this water has been replaced by UV treated water. This is expected to happen Sunday, Dec. 9 or sooner.

A Water Quality Advisory means the risk is low but some customers should be careful when ingesting the water especially children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. For these people, water intended for drinking, making ice and washing should be boiled for one minute.

Updates will be posted to the RDNO website at www.rdno.ca.
