From today, June 28 to July 2, Kelowna roadways will host the RCMP Motorcycle Operators Course, where officers will test their abilities at steering their 900-pound motorcycle at low speeds through a closed cone course.

“The RCMP B.C. Highway Patrol is extremely grateful for the partnership we have formed here with the University of British Columbia and its Okanagan campus, to partner in hosting the motorcycle users course right here in Kelowna,” Insp. Dale Somerville, Officer-In-Charge of B.C. Highway Patrol, said in a media release.

After the cone test, Mounties will complete the course and take to Kelowna streets and surrounding highways with their instructors.

“Part of that continued training will include conducting traffic stops in the community with Kelowna motorists, most of whom will simply be thanked for their patience, cooperation and be sent on their way,” Somerville said. “We appreciate the patience and flexibility of the public while we work on making our highways safer together.”
