A pair of ospreys have made their home on top of a nesting pole in Kelowna and two eggs have been laid so far. The public can watch as the chicks hatch and grow through a livestream.

The birds are on one of nearly 80 nesting poles across the southern Interior installed by FortisBC since 2005 as part of its Osprey Management program, according to a media release. FortisBC didn't provide the exact location of the Kelowna nesting pole.

The nesting poles are higher than electric infrastructure to encourage the birds to build nests in safe places. The utility also works with power line technicians to relocate nests built on electric infrastructure.

“Protecting osprey and other wildlife around our infrastructure is important for us as the electric utility in the southern Interior and it’s always a special time of year when the ospreys come back to build their homes and mate,” Amy Duncan with FortisBC said in the release.

“With our efforts through the Osprey Management program, we’ve made sure any nests on our power poles are safely moved outside of nesting season and we continue to install new nesting platforms for any birds looking for a safe place to build their home.”
