Wanted man arrested after car chase in Kelowna

KELOWNA - RCMP have arrested a wanted man who hit a police car and flipped a stolen truck in Kelowna today.

Police were alerted about a man wanted on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant at around 8:43 a.m. today, April 19, according to an RCMP media release. He was inside a residence on Gerstmar Road.

RCMP arrived at the residence, but did not immediately find the man they were looking for. While waiting nearby, the officers saw the man running from a neighbour’s residence.

Police chased the man on foot through a construction site and down several streets when they saw him jump into an unoccupied truck that was left running.

The suspect then drove onto Hein Road where he hit an unmarked police vehicle, causing the truck to flip onto its roof.

He wasn't hurt and was arrested immediately.

RCMP say the driver will attend court on the outstanding warrant and will likely face further charges as a result of his actions this morning.
