US Forest Service to host meeting about young forests

MANCHESTER, Vt. - The federal government is going to be hosting a public meeting so people can learn about a 15-year plan to increase the amount of young forest in the Green Mountain National Forest.

The March 26 U.S. Forest Service meeting at the Manchester Community Library will discuss the goal of increasing the amount of young forest through commercial timber harvests in the Manchester Ranger District of the Green Mountain National Forest.

The project is intended to improve habitat for neo-tropical migrant songbirds and other wildlife species that require young forests.

The objective of the project is to increase in the acreage of the vegetation that is up to nine years old. The timber harvests would take place on adjacent parcels over time.
