Voters to decide if Monte Creek gets fire protection service

Voters in the Thompson Nicola Regional District will decide this month if Monte Creek should get its own fire protection service.

On Saturday, May 28, qualified electors within Electoral Area P and Electoral Area L of the regional district will be eligible to vote in the Monte Creek fire protection service referendum.

The proposed service would result in a new fire department that would offer structural fire protection to homes and businesses in the Monte Creek area, according to a press release from the TNRD.

The service would include the construction of a new fire hall, purchase of a fire truck, firefighting equipment and recruitment of volunteer firefighters, according to the regional district.

Qualified electors will have two options to vote in person, during an advanced voting Day May 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the TNRD Civic Building's fourth floor, 300-465 Victoria St. in Kamloops or on general voting day May 28, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the B.C. Livestock office at 10145 Dallas Dr. in Kamloops.

Mail ballot voting will be available as well.
