KAMLOOPS - Weekly Volunteer Highlights for Aug. 12 to Aug. 19, 2016

Therapeutic Riding Association
Kids Camp Volunteers- Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association are needing assistance for their 4 week summer kids' (5 to 13 yrs olds) camps that run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Dates are: August 16-18. We are needing volunteers who have horse experience along with those who are comfortable around horses to help out with lessons and stable management. The Gleaning Abundance Program
Harvest Volunteers - The Gleaning Abundance Program is looking for individual & group volunteers to help harvest excess fruit from residential trees. The volunteers will share in the harvest with the other shares going to the homeowners and various non-profits. 18+ to volunteer, and family volunteering friendly. Harvest Season is June to November, seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 250-851-6111.

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
CIBC Run for the Cure Organizing Committee – Interested in being part of team, raising much needed funds for breast cancer research? Join us on the Kamloops Run Committee and have fun putting your skills to work. It takes a community to put on an event from helping out on Run Day to project managing the committee. Positions: Co-Run Director, Fundraising; Co-Run Director, Logistics; Registration Coordinator; Route Coordinator; Volunteer Coordinator. 19+ to volunteer. Co-Run Directors will lead a committee of new and returning coordinators who meet monthly, and then bi-weekly in Sept. Salvation Army
Community Services Helpers - The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help out in their community services department Tuesday through Friday mornings, and also Wednesday evenings. Duties: handing out emergency hampers, serving meals, and also assisting with the upkeep of the department. 16+ to volunteer & family volunteering friendly. For more information, call 250-554-1611.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Elizabeth Fry Society
Lizzy’s Closet - Clothing Organizer/ Assistant - The Elizabeth Fry Society is looking for one or two female volunteers twice a week for approximately one to three hours to help sort clothing & donations, organize the closet, and assist women in need who attend the closet. 19+ to volunteer. Big Brothers Big Sisters
In-School Mentoring - The volunteers will be a positive role model and have a desire to make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers will spend one hour a week with a child (Your Little Buddy) in their elementary school, playing games, making arts and crafts, and just being friends for the duration of the school year. 15+ to volunteer. Open Door Group - Garden Gate Program
General Garden Volunteers - The volunteers can work independently or as part of a group performing all types of seasonal work. Duties may include: composting, crop health, fence line maintenance, weeding, irrigation, watering, harvesting, seeding, transplanting, set up of greenhouse systems, plant sales, basic cleaning, janitorial duties, and maintenance of equipment. 16+ to volunteer. Kamloops Community Safety & Enforcement
Citizens on Patrol - Assist the police by providing extra eyes and ears in monitoring criminal activity. Volunteers are paired with a partner. Equipment and training are provided. Volunteers report crime, locate stolen vehicles, and assist in patrols of areas of interest to help make our community a safe place to live. Great experience for those interested in pursuing a career in policing. 19+ to volunteer. For more information call 250-828-3818.

Interior Community Services
Childminding Volunteers – The volunteers will help watch children while their parents are in learning sessions Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings 10 a.m. to noon. The volunteers will assist the staff in the children’s area to watch the children, and be an extra set of eyes and ears. Royal Inland Hospital
Cancer Clinic Support Volunteers - Looking for volunteers to support cancer patients by greeting them before treatments, provide refreshments, snacks, warm blankets, and converse with them. They are looking for the volunteers to be able to commit to at least a four hour shift. 18+ to volunteer. For more information call 250-314-2313.
