VERNON - The Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery in Vernon is hoping to identify two suspects who broke into the business and tried to steal, expensive limited edition whiskey.

The pair showed up at the distillery around 5 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. Caught on video surveillance, the duo appear to take a closer look through the window at a display case holding several limited editions of Okanagan Spirits Laird of Fintry Whiskey, which is only available through an annual lottery, the company says in a media release.

The suspects return to their vehicle — a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma — and roughly eight minutes later return to the front door and smash through the glass. It appears they tried to break open the display cases, but got spooked by the alarms and did not end up making off with the limited edition whiskey, the distillery says. They did however grab a collection of spirits on their way out.

“A family-owned local business, the owners are saddened by this vandalism and are looking to the public to provide any information they may have using video footage captured from the distillery's surveillance cameras to identify the men,” the company says in the release.

The incident resulted in thousands of dollars in damage.
