ATM robbery suspect, who was driven over by his victim in Kelowna last week, is now behind bars.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Highway 33 in Kelowna on Sept. 26, after a caller said someone had pointed a firearm at him, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP said the suspect attempted to rob the victim — who had been sitting in his vehicle — by pointing a weapon at him through his window and demanding money the victim had just withdrawn from an ATM. To escape, the victim reversed out of his parking spot, unintentionally striking the suspect. He then called the police.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital with a broken leg.
Lenny Lipscombe, 25, of Kelowna is facing several charges including robbery and use of an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence. He also had six outstanding warrants for other offences including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and extortion.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 11.
“The victim is safe and the suspect is in custody. We are working closely with the BC Prosecution Service to address not only this incident, but others that are similar to ensure they happen less and less in our communities,” Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release.
Anyone who may have captured this incident on CCTV or dash cam are asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2023-57734.
