VERNON - Predator Ridge Resort in Vernon will be the first of three Thompson-Okanagan venues to host the World Travel Awards.
The event, scheduled for October 2020, will draw 300 delegates from airlines, tour operators, travel agents, international media and hospitality professionals from around the world, putting the region on the world travel map, according to a Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association media release. The other two venues in the Thompson-Okanagan will be announced in the spring of 2020 and 2021.
Vernon will be in good company as the tourism event has been held in New York, Montego Bay and Orlando in past years.
“We are so honoured to welcome such a prestigious event to the Thompson-Okanagan and look forward to hosting international tourism industry leaders in Vernon,” Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association said in the release.
The announcement about the successful three-year bid was made at the European Gala Ceremony in Madeira, Portugal.
The association itself won the World’s Responsible Tourism Award at the World Travel Awards last year.
