Vernon's new top cop speaks to 'inclusive' outlook

Vernon RCMP Supt. Shawna Baher

Vernon’s new top cop Supt. Shawna Baher has officially taken the helm of the Vernon North Okanagan Regional RCMP. Baher was welcomed to her new job at the City of Vernon’s July 23 council meeting.

Baher told iNFOnews.ca her management style was “inclusive” and said she was very cognizant of the different issues faced by the community; highlighting the fentanyl crisis, homelessness and need for the community to work together to solve these issues.

A veteran police officer with 26 years with the RCMP, Baher comes to Vernon from Surrey RCMP where she was in charge of proactive enforcement, overseeing the Drug Unit, Gang Task Force, Property Crime/Auto Crime Teams, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Crash Investigative Teams and Criminal Intelligence Unit. Baher is also an expert drug witness in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts.

Baher will oversee the regional detachments that serve Vernon, Coldstream, Spallumcheen, Armstrong, Enderby, Lumby, Falkland and the Splatsin and Okanagan First Nations.
