The mother of a Vernon 12-year-old who captured some social media attention last week for shovelling their driveway wearing only shorts and boots says “you have to laugh.”

On Nov. 18, a photo of Jack Bos was taken by a neighbour and shared to Facebook. The image has gathered hundreds of likes and comments in the popular Hell Yeah Vernon! Facebook group and has since become a meme.

Jack’s mother Marcy Bos said she wasn’t aware of the image until she was tagged in the post on Facebook but it wasn’t a surprise.

“I didn’t think it was so hilarious when I saw it the first time but one gets over it I guess,” she said.

Kids often don’t want to wear jackets, but “he took it a step further, that’s Jack for you,” Marcy said.

“Three years ago, his best friend’s mom sent me a message and said, this is in January, ‘Jack just showed up at our place in pyjama shorts and boots...’ the kid would run around nude if I let him, in public. I’m actually shocked that he at least wore boots, usually he’d be wearing crocs or something, the boots are a really great touch,’” she said.

Jack has his own yardwork business and loves doing yardwork for residents in the community.

“He just went out there when he saw that it was snowing and he did our driveway which was fabulous, maybe potentially next time wear some clothes,” she said.

Jack’s best friend added the lines “Meanwhile… every kid in Canada” to the image and Marcy shared it to the Facebook group.

“I might as well embrace the madness… it is I guess a typical Canadian thing to be acting like it’s not winter,” she said. “You have to laugh, obviously he was enjoying himself and was quite proud of himself.”
