Vernon Search and Rescue called out to assist injured hiker

FILE PHOTO: An injured hiker was transported to a waiting ambulance today, March 13, 2017 in the Westside Road area.

VERNON - Vernon Search and Rescue came to the aid of an injured hiker stuck in the hills above Westside Road this afternoon.

Leigh Pearson, with Vernon Search and Rescue, says they were called about 1:45 p.m. today, March 13, to help the woman.

Pearson says she was hiking with a friend on some old logging roads when she slipped in the snow and suffered a suspected broken ankle. A crew of Search and Rescue members hiked to her location and were expected to have her transported to an ambulance waiting at the trail head by mid-afternoon.

This is Vernon Search and Rescue’s fourth call out since Friday. Over the weekend, the helicopter team was deployed twice to help rescue stranded snowmobilers near Clearwater and Enderby.
