VERNON - A Vernon man who uses his free time to help people move is reeling from the recent theft of his utility trailers.
Ray Giesbrecht, a Vernon retiree, owns two utility trailers, both of which were stolen from his church earlier this week.
According to his daughter Jennifer Lewis, Giesbrecht stored a smaller utility trailer inside a larger one and left them at the Okanagan Landing Community Church on Dec. 30 after he helped take down Christmas decorations. When Giesbrecht returned to the church on Jan. 2, he couldn't find his trailers.
Lewis said Giesbrecht used his trailers to help people move across the province, traveling up north and as far as Vancouver without asking for compensation.
"Ray has the kindest heart and is so giving to others," she said in a text conversation.
Lewis said Giesbrecht and his wife hadn't renewed the insurance on their trailers before they were stolen, meaning the couple could face an $18,000 loss if their property isn't returned.
"I'm devastated for them," she said. "My parents are very selfless people who didn’t deserve for this to happen to them."
The trailer bears the license plate 5710 6D. Anyone with information on the incident should contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
