Vernon residents invited to weigh in on changes to Hurlburt Park

FILE

VERNON - The City of Vernon's drafts plans and proposed improvements for Hurlburt Park on Okanagan Lake are now available for public comment.

The proposed improvements include a new driveway entrance, traffic calming, lighting and signs on Eastside Road, according to a City of Vernon media release.

A new parking lot provides spaces for 20 vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and mobile vendors. A timber-frame picnic shelter/outdoor classroom and a sand play area would be constructed within the foundation of the former camp dining hall.

Buoys are set to define a safe swimming area by the dock and swimming platform. Small non-motorized craft would be permitted to hand launch from the dock. Log seating along the beach, and picnic tables in the trees and gravel paths are also in the works.

The open house will be held at Lakers Clubhouse, 7000 Cummins Rd., on March 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The plans and sketches are also available for viewing and comment on the website at www.engagevernon.ca until March 13, 2018.
