VERNON - Police are appealing to the public for information about a hit and run that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

The accident happened around 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, at Okanagan Landing Road and Fulton Road, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says. According to a witness, a silver Toyota Celica appeared to stop in the middle of the road, which caused a motorcyclist to crash into the back of the car. The driver of the Toyota then fled from the scene.

The 44-year-old motorcyclist was badly injured and taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, but is expected to recover, Molendyk says.

The Toyota was later found unoccupied at Kin Beach.

“The investigation is ongoing and the police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the bike and the Toyota driving on Okanagan Landing road just prior to the crash or if you witnessed the accident to please call them at the Vernon office,” Molendyk says.

You can call the Vernon RCMP detachment at 250-545-7171.
