Vernon RCMP has confirmed a bomb-like device discovered in a residential apartment yesterday morning was not an explosive.
After arriving on scene at the 3700-block of 24 Avenue, an RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit examined the device and confirmed it was not an explosive, according to an RCMP media release.
The device was discovered by a clean-up crew shortly before 9 a.m. Oct. 28, at 3710 24 Ave. Police evacuated nearby residents and cordoned off the surrounding area.
A source, who didn't want to be named, told iNFOnews.ca the device looked like a bomb and contained batteries, wires, tape and a pressure gauge.

RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit arrived at the scene at 4:30 p.m. and after giving the all-clear residents were allowed back into their homes and the area was opened to the public again.
“The person discovering the device did the right thing by notifying police immediately," Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in a media release. "Reports of any potential explosive devices must be taken seriously and all necessary precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of the public.
"We are very fortunate to have experts available who are trained to provide guidance and assist in dealing with suspicious devices. Thankfully, the device determined not to be an explosive and we want to express our appreciation to residents and the public for their patience and understanding as we worked to safely resolve the situation."
