Vernon lawyer appointed Supreme Court judge

VERNON - One of the city's own has been appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Gary Weatherill is a partner of Nixon Wenger. He attended the University of British Columbia, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1979. He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1980, when he began his practice with Nixon Wenger.

A partner with the firm for 31 years and specializing in civil litigation and personal law injury, Weatherill was also a past president of the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C. and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008.

Weatherill's accomplishments spread into the community as a supporter of many organizations and events and his profession often followed him into these ventures. He served on the Ethics Committee for the Law Society of British Columbia from September 2011 to the date of his appointment. He has also been a member of the board of directors and vice-president of Braintrust Canada since 2008, was a member of the Kalamalka Rotary Club from 1984 to 1998 and most recently was nominated as the 2013 Good Guy of the Year in honour of his ongoing efforts to support the North Okanagan Community Life Society.
