A Grade 8 student at Vernon's Clarence Fulton Secondary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

The school confirmed the exposure in a letter it sent to parents yesterday, Dec. 7.

The letter says the Grade 8 student is a member of the media arts class and social studies class and is now self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams.

While the letter doesn't give a date as to when the exposure happened, Interior Health lists a potential exposure to have taken place at the school between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.

According to the school, Interior Health is now undertaking contact tracing to determine who was in close contact with the student and is now required to self-isolate.

The letter to parents says Interior Health will contact those found to have been in contact with the student. The letter goes onto say if parents are not contacted by Interior Health then it has been determined their child is not at risk of developing COVID-19.

"The safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff remains our highest priority. Please be reassured that our school will continue to implement the strict protocols and procedures we have in place so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible," the letter reads.
